“Ethnic Crop Specialists” (ECS) is a non-profit consulting outfit set up to promote crop diversification for healthy living and Food Security in New Jersey and the United States of America. It targets the integration of healthful and nutritious ethnic crops into the community food basket to respond to the growing human diversity in the country. The major ethnic crops being currently promoted are Exotic Peppers, Okra, Roselle, Tigernut, and Tropical Spinach. Other crops include African and Indian Eggplants, Bitterleaf, Egusi Melon, Ewedu (Corchorus), Fluted Pumpkin (Ugwu), Moringa, Sokoyokoto (Celosia), “Yam Leaf” (Sweet potato leaf), African White Yam and Purple Yam (Indian Water Yam). ECS promotes these crops by sharing up-to-date knowledge and skills on production, post-harvest handling, utilization, and marketing. It shares ethnic crop seeds and organizes short online and face-to-face training workshops on ethnic crops in the United States.
